It's wonderful to see how a run-down farm can be transformed into a wonderful facility for people with disabilities. The opportunity to support them by visiting the café is a must-see.

Blekkers Hofcafé in Uelsen is located in a beautifully restored, historic farm that is now part of a social housing and work project. In the atmospheric café – where the hay used to be and the cattle stood – you can enjoy home-made cakes and regional products, often freshly harvested from their own garden.

The Bronze Age farm is a prehistoric farmstead from the prehistoric Bronze Age 2200-800 BC. The impressive farmstead was reconstructed in close cooperation with the municipality of Uelsen, the Lower Saxony State Office for Monument Preservation and other partners. It offers insights into the life of our Bronze Age ancestors with their animals from a farm on the Riedberg south of Uelsen.

Actually a reconstruction of the dolmen, which had completely disappeared. In 1957, the remains of the disappeared dolmen 02 were excavated near Mander under the direction of C.C.W.J. Hijszeler, the then director of the Rijksmuseum Twente. During excavations in 1958, the 'Mander Man' was found in one of the burial mounds of Mander, in the form of a corpse silhouette. This means that almost all bone remains had disappeared and only a 'shadow' of the body was visible. The 'Mander Man' lived about 4000 years ago, in the Bronze Age. This man was missing his feet. It is believed that the feet of a dead person were cut off to prevent him from rising again and taking the living with him to the realm of the dead.

The Mander circles were commissioned by textile manufacturer and large landowner Gerhard Jannink. He brought the idea with him from North America, where he saw the advantages of round fields. The machines worked from the center in a spiral manner. Jannink alternately cultivated rye, oats, potatoes and later corn here. When that was no longer profitable, the land was sold to Landschap Overijssel in 1991. Artist Paul de Kort was asked to design the area. One circle was given a 'fencing' and a spiral labyrinth in the center. The other was given a wall with a raised area in the middle like a burial mound, with fifty juniper bushes on it. This project was completed in 1999. Now, heathland cows graze there to maintain the nutrient-poor heathland. However, there is quite a lot of storage within the circles: the cows still have something to do!
