This expansive nature reserve invites you to a tranquil drive through a unique moorland landscape. Rare plants such as white beak-sedge, sphagnum mosses, and the large red damselfly make their home here. On quiet paths, you'll experience one of the last remaining living raised bogs in Lower Saxony – an impressive, almost untouched natural gem in the heart of the Hunte-Leda moorland.

The herbrum dam and a shelter are also located here. Both are easily accessible by bike or car.

The bridge over the Ems is located between Borsum and Herbrum.

Take it a little slower here. It's worth looking left and right.

Ems weir, Pünte near Lehe, on the way along the DEK...this river can have countless names. However, the tidal weir here on the tidal Ems is the transition to the freshwater area. The weir is the first barrier encountered by migratory aquatic animals trying to move from the tidal Ems to the middle reaches of the river—for example, to spawn there, or, like eels, to ascend from their spawning and hatching grounds in the sea into the rivers, where they spend their time as adults before migrating back to their spawning grounds. This example shows how important the river "migration route" is for fish to complete their life cycle. There is a shelter and a fishing station at the weir.
