Carp is considered the fish of the region. Benjamin Junghanns is firmly convinced of this. No wonder, since he deals with the popular food fish almost every day. The 39-year-old is part of the Eulo pond farm and takes care of foreign trade and sales at the regional weekly markets - in Forst (Wednesday), Spremberg (Thursday) and Cottbus (Friday). He also takes care of smoking the tasty non-predatory fish. The family business has been run by father Christoph Junghanns for more than 30 years and, as usual, things get really stressful towards the end of the year. "From September onwards, the ponds are gradually drained and preparations are made for the Christmas business," reports Benjamin Junghanns. The Forst pond farmers ultimately have to look after more than 35 ponds. Even if Junghanns Junior cannot give an exact figure for this year's quantity, an average of around 30 tons of food carp are "harvested" each year.
