A purchase agreement from 1335 mentions for the first time a noble residence on the hilltop above Theisenort. The knights Eberhard and Konrad von Kotzau sold their estate to the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg, which, just a few years later, transferred it to Iring von Redwitz. In 1390, it was again granted to the Prince-Bishopric as a fief.[3] During the Peasants' War of 1525, the insurgents plundered and burned the Theisenort fortress. It was rebuilt by 1528. During the Thirty Years' War, Veit von Redwitz supported the Swedish troops, in contrast to the imperial city of Kronach. After the defeat of the Swedes, all of Veit's possessions were supposed to fall to Kronach, but this was prevented by the influence of Protestant princes. Thus, the Theisenort estate remained in the possession of the Barons von Redwitz for more than 500 years. It was not until 1862 that Oskar von Redwitz sold the castle, which had by then been expanded into a palace, to the Counts of Egloffstein. However, they sold it again in 1909 to Julius Eckart, whose descendants still own the property.[4] In 1947, the palace was struck by lightning and burned down completely. Its reconstruction as a private residence resulted in the loss of its palace character.
