Picturesque trail from Newmarket in the west of Suffolk to Cattawade in the south-east where the river joins the estuary at the border with Essex, passing through the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A Dunwich Dynamo fixture. They serve hot food outside and the queues here are always huge! 16 miles to the next significant stop on the Dunwich Dynamo. If you are ride planning your DD fuelling / drinking strategy, then consider the McDonalds just out of Sudbury (it's on the route).

Lovely pub! Re: DUNWICH DYNAMO: They operated a basic barbecue (2023). Be warned, one of the longest and busiest on the route. (re-confirmed this in 2024) BUT it's the last significant stop for a little while. Enjoy the break here. Typically quite cold at the point you reach this on the Dunwich Dynamo.

Hours have extended a bit but still very limited - open until 1pm Thu-Sun but if you’re here after lunch or at the start of the week you’re out of luck. Definitely catering for the weekend morning club rides!

Beautiful village!

One of England's finest medieval towns. It is noted for its splendid 15th Century timber framed Guildhall. There is also good selection of cafes available, to pick up some refreshments

This beautiful footpath occupies what was once the railway between Sudbury and Cambridge. Both the Stour Valley Path and St Edmund Way long-distance trails make use of this section, which takes you across Sudbury riverside meadows. The meadows are a delight all year round but are at their most colourful during spring.

The cathedral-esque Holy Trinity Church in Long Melford is a sight to behold. Grade I-listed, it was funded by the region's prosperous wool trade and built between 1467 and 1497 in the late Perpendicular Gothic style. Thought by many to be one of the finest religious buildings in the country, a visit is a must when hiking in the area.

If your ride finishes in Long Melford this is a good place to end it. Great on-site bar with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a lovely beer garden.

Good place for a pit stop plenty of pubs and cafes and very old feel

Couple of benches for a sit down if you need one. Nice views from the road as you go past.

Open Thursday 9-12:30 Friday-Sunday 9-1. Coffee, sandwiches and cake. Very bicycle (and dog) friendly - floor pump ready to use etc.

Very pretty town, does get busy

Good stop but check it’s open. Often shut when I’ve been past.
