beautiful trail between the forest paths

The farm, with its fortified structure, was built on a medieval trade route from the Main Valley to Erfurt and a former ford over the Röden River. Over the centuries, the fortified structure developed into a moated castle and eventually a palace. Owners from the 14th century onward included the Coburg family, who, in 1451, sold the property to the mint masters of Rosenau. In 1600, the castle and estate were acquired by Duke Johann Casimir for 28,000 guilders and transferred to the princely chamber of Coburg as a domain.

A rock grotto was created on the eastern slope of the ridge in 1817. The small "Prince's Pond" above served as a water reservoir, fed by rainwater. While usually only a small trickle trickled from the overflow, during heavy rainfall there was a torrent, which could be regulated by opening a sluice at the Prince's Pond.

The present late Gothic choir was built between 1401 and 1407. Over the centuries, the church has been remodeled several times, most notably in the Margravial style from 1735 to 1739. Today, the church presents itself as a hall church with an asymmetrical appearance, which is a result of its varied construction history. The oldest part is the Gothic choir. Inside, the flat, stuccoed plank ceiling and the galleries are striking.
