The Seeon Lakes are a small lake district around 4 km north of Lake Chiemsee in the Traunstein district, mostly in the area of the municipality of Seeon-Seebruck. Only the two northernmost lakes, the Griessee and the Brunnensee, belong to the municipality of Obing. The circular route around the Obinger See is a good 3.5 kilometers long and takes about an hour to walk if you take your time for the many sculptures along the way. A good dozen local artists have created interesting works of art here from various materials such as stone, steel and wood. Informative texts, e.g. about the former tombstones, explain the art and give food for thought. The bathing areas and jetties along the way are also very nice, as are the many creative seating options, including a wooden washing machine or a bathtub to sit on.

The oak stands a little higher on a small hill. The musician and composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) often visited the musical Benedictine monastery in Seeon from Salzburg. According to stories, Mozart is said to have regularly rested on a bench under the oak tree during his walks. Accordingly, the oak is called Mozart oak. However, it is doubted that the oak is actually that old!
