6月 22, 2025, Kingsland Bridge
The Kingsland Bridge is NOT free for pedestrians, there is in fact a fee of 1p each way. If you can find the box in which to dutifully deposit your 1p or 2p, and if you actually have such small change. (Cash only, unlike the car toll which is now 30p and contactless card only.)

4月 15, 2025, Myddle Castle Ruins
A castle was constructed in Myddle between 1308 and 1310 by Lord John Le Strange as a stronghold against the Welsh after the family obtained a licence to convert the manor house into a castle. Sometime around 1449, Elizabeth Cobham received the castle as part of her dowry from Richard, 7th Lord Strange. After Lord Strange died, Cobham married Sir Roger Kynaston in 1450. Elizabeth died in 1453, and left the castle to Kynaston. Upon Roger's death in 1495, his son Humphrey Kynaston inherited the castle, but allowed it to fall into disrepair, and abandoned it some time later. The castle has stood empty since the 16th century, with one visitor to the village, John Leland, describing the castle as veri ruinus around 1540. The castle collapsed during the 1688 earthquake. The castle was repaired by John Hume Egerton in 1849, who inscribed his name into a block in the castle's wall. The castle is now a Grade II Listed Building and, since a portion collapsed in 1976, has been scheduled for repair.

2月 18, 2025, Llangollen Town
Smart small town with plenty of decent coffee shops, bakeries and ice cream shops. Classic Co-op too if needed. Lovely place to regroup before or after Horseshoe Pass.

Llangollen is a town and community, situated on the River Dee, in Denbighshire, Wales. Its riverside location forms the edge of the Berwyn range, and the Dee Valley section of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the easternmost point of the Dee Valley Way being within the town. It is a wonderful location to ride on all kinds of bikes with the canal running along Llangollen its much better to take that route as the roads are very busy.

This is the first place you come to if you take the canal route into Llangollen. Make sure you dismount before getting to the horse drawn boats.

6月 12, 2024, Llangollen Town
Llangollen is one of the most beautiful places in Northwest Wales and definitely worth visiting for both the town and the surrounding natural beauty. It's also a good waypoint to stop and refuel, especially if you are planning on tackling the Horseshoe pass.

6月 3, 2024, Whittington Castle
Whittington Castle is a castle in northern Shropshire, England, owned and managed by the Whittington Castle Preservation Fund. The castle was originally a motte-and-bailey castle, but this was replaced in the 13th century by one with buildings around a courtyard whose exterior wall was the curtain wall of the inner bailey. As a castle of the Welsh Marches, it was built on the border of Wales and England very close to the historic fort of Old Oswestry.

3月 22, 2024, Llangollen Wharf
No matter what the weather or time of year, there’s nothing quite like homemade fare in welcoming surroundings. The Llangollen Wharf is also home to Horse Drawn Boats and Aqueduct Barge Trips and Serves breakfast, soup, cakes, snacks and a very popular Afternoon Tea. You will need to dismount your bike as you come through this area due to horses pulling boats. Children and outside seating it can get quite busy because it's a popular area along the canal. They also have toilets.

Llangollen Bridge is built across the River Dee at the North end of the high street of Llangollen in the county of Denbighshire in North-east Wales. The Bridge is listed as one of the seven wonders of Wales and is a Grade I listed building. There has been a bridge across the Dee at Llangollen since at least 1284, though the current bridge appears to date to the 16th or 17th century when an earlier bridge was rebuilt. The current bridge has been enlarged numerous times since then, doubling in width. The bridge is still in use.

Beautiful spot with a variety of boat trips available but there is also a great cafe on site which should be really reviewed as a separate entity but it’s not on google. Anyway the food is great, well priced and you get monster cake portions. Plenty of seating inside and out but I bet it gets filled up during busy weekends/holidays. Very close to Llangollen town centre. Toilets on site and pet friendly.

Llangollen is a stunning little town and the river bridge is a central point with sightseers watching paddlers negotiating this famous stretch of the river Dee. Lots of eating and drinking houses, shops and sights to see including the Llangollen Canal and nearby Pontcystllte Aqueduct which is a UNESCO WHS. Great place!

Llangollen bridge is a great place to stop for a view of the river Dee and a good place to cross as the next bridges are 3.6 K west or 6.7 K east.
