Someone has allowed themselves a joke here: there is no such thing as a Schmutterquelle! If you walk about 1.5 km in the direction of the arrow on the signpost, you will come to a (depending on the season) fairly damp forest area. Here you will find a number of hollows from which water flows into washed-out ditches and gradually form a dominant brook. A number of side clots flow into this brook from the left and right, which was then given the name "Schmutter".

You'd like to jump right in! Coming from Schnerzhofen, don't forget to look to the left - you can already see it there!

The Schmutter is one of the most important and formative rivers in the Western Forests Nature Park, it rises here in the perennials, about three kilometers west of Siebnach. The spring is actually a headwaters with several springs. It flows in a northerly direction through the hill country and the Western Forests Nature Park towards the Danube and is a small tributary of the Danube with a length of 96 km. In Fischach the Schmutter is at the confluence of Neufnach and Erk "Neufnach and Erk bring the Schmutter to work". The Erk became the source river of the Schmutter. From Neusäß it runs on the western edge of the Lech Valley. At the lower reaches of it it flows into the Danube. The mouth of the Schmutter near Donauwörth forms the historical end point of the Via Claudia.
