The Grüntensee was named after the mountain Grünten.

The rustic Kronenhütte is located at an altitude of 1,120 meters and is open year-round. The Grüntensee is a worthwhile destination for a bike tour, as the surrounding area offers beautiful landscapes and well-developed cycle paths. The circuit around the lake is about 8-10 km long and can be cycled comfortably. The level of difficulty is easy to medium, the route is also suitable for beginners and families. It is mostly flat, but there are a few small climbs. There are fantastic views of the Grünten, the “guardian of the Allgäu”, and the surrounding Alps. There are numerous opportunities to take a break along the shore and enjoy the great impressions.

The waterfall is actually many small waterfalls of the Schloßbächel and can be followed along the waterfall path over countless steps. Parallel to this there are other small waterfalls of the Mühlbach. Between the two streams there is a mountain spur, which is also accessible via a path and also borders the ruins of the Nesselburg. The amount of water varies greatly depending on the time of year and previous weather and can also turn into ice falls in winter.

The Grüntensee is a 2.5 km long and 11.2 m deep reservoir of the Wertach with a circumference of 8.2 km in the Oberallgäu district on the border with the Ostallgäu district, Bavarian Swabia, Bavaria, 3.1 km west of Nesselwang. The reservoir was completed in 1962 and is used for flood protection and power generation. Here you can take a nice break and enjoy the peace and quiet by the lake.
