Now relocated around the corner to larger premises on the High Street. No cycle parking out front but they have a back garden and they're happy for cyclists (even a group of 10!) to wheel your bike through the cafe to the garden.

The present building is a cathedral. The abbey that preceded it was shut down after the reformation and only its ruins remain.

The memorial is not too far from the Maglia Rosso Cycle shop and cafe.

Beautifully maintained roadside memorial to Johannes Bartholomeus Jat Van Mesdag, a 21 year old Mustang pilot who died near here in an flying accident. He was born on 3rd October 1923 in Hilversum, Netherlands. Before the war he was studying in the U.S.A., living in Ardsley, Hudson, New York. He joined the Dutch Air Force in Canada and was sent to UK, arriving 17th August 1942. He was awarded his wings on 26th November 1944, joining 64 Squadron on 28th December. Within the Dutch Air Force, his rank was 2nd Luitenant. In the R.A.F.V.R. he was a Flight Sergeant but appears to have been commissioned at the time of his death. He had one kill registered; a Focke Wulf 190 near Frankfurt on 14th January 1945. He was based at RAF Bentwaters, flying North American Mustang Mk III. On 6th March, flying Mustang KH451, it appears he dived out of cloud into the ground a few miles NW of Lawshall. The accident was unexplained and came was unknown. This beautiful cathedral was originally built as a church in the early 13th century and became a cathedral for the newly established Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich in 1914. It has some beautiful characteristics including a large rose window, detailed stone carvings, fantastic gardens and the notable Abbey Gate.

Nice little beer garden at the front overlooking the road.

Archetypal Suffolk village, with scenic cottages standing around the large green.

Twisting but steady gradient with a decent surface that allows you to carry your speed through the bends as you drop 35m down to the junction with the main road in the valley.

Lovely inn (pub with rooms) serving real ales

Lovely cafe with delicious home made sausage rolls, scones, and lots more

Open every day but closes for an hour at lunch and only a half day on Sundays.

Expansive views south and east at the top of the climb up from the valley of the River Lark. Enjoy the sharp drop down towards Hawstead or the shallower descent towards Bury.

From a distance I thought it was a huge flag but on closer view it’s an impressive union flag mural covering the end of the village hall with a CR III coronation crown mounted above. Only visible when heading northbound.

A more gentle descent to the A1092 from Glemsford than the main route due south from the village. Not really noteworthy as a climb but going down gives a long steady run on a broad road with gradual corners allowing you to carry your speed all the way to the village of Cavendish at the bottom.

35m in 500m, steepest at the bottom by the bridge over the Glem. Max effort to the junction at the top.
