Until the middle of the 20th century, the Lechauen meadows north of Landsberg were a popular summer pasture for itinerant shepherds from all over southern Germany. In winter, the shepherds moved their animals to warmer areas, such as the Rhine Valley. It is largely thanks to the grazing that the Lechheiden with their typical appearance as well as the characteristic flora and fauna - it was sheep that decisively shaped the landscape on the Lech! Today, nature conservation counts on the help of these four-legged friends. In order to preserve our historical cultural landscape with its unique flora and fauna, sheep are the ideal landscape conservationists: Frugal and with centuries of "professional experience".
