The Gredl cycle path is one of the highlights in the Roth district 🚂 it brings back childhood memories of when you rode the route on the good old steam locomotive 🤩 And since the Goude didn't pack too much weight, there's a maximum of 2% gradient.

The Gredl cycle path is 30 km long, asphalted and there are still old railway signs indicating the former use of the railway line.

With the connection to the Roth S-Bahn station and the onward journey on the regional train to Hilpoltstein, you can ideally start your leisurely bike tour at Hilpoltstein's Gredl station. The "Gredl" local railway, which first went into operation in 1887, served as a means of passenger and freight transport. Steam locomotives carried the trains from Roth to Greding. It ran along the entire route until the 1970s. Railway operations were gradually discontinued. Today, the Gredl only runs with modern trains from Roth to Hilpoltstein. A 30-kilometer cycle path, half of which is asphalted, has been set up along the rest of the route.

Personally, I prefer to drive it from bottom to top, it's simply more demanding and sportier. I take the entrance from the old people's home deck. The trail has now become very narrow in some places. Drive with concentration here, as the “abyss” should not be underestimated. It really is a highlight here in the region. Another tip for those driving down: take a detour via Mauk to the Petersgmünder Weiher and walk around it.
