Until well into the 19th century, Schwaiger Castle was the centre of the small village in the Pegnitz Valley. In September 1992, after renovation, it was given a new purpose as a meeting place and a venue for cultural purposes.

Nuremberg is full of green oases and since December 2018 parts of the Pegnitz have been designated as the Pegnitztal Ost nature reserve. Stroll along the Pegnitz, have a picnic in the shade of the huge trees - as a city dweller you don't have to go far to get into the countryside.
