If walking the route I've suggested I would wear good waterproof boots and if your unsteady on your feet take poles to help balance great walk to suit all abilities

A song that—originally from the American gospel tradition—has traveled the world, fitting perfectly for this church, which the parish has entrusted to the patron saint of "All Saints." "Oh when the Saints go marching in, oh when the Saints go marching in, oh Lord, I want to be in that number, oh when the Saints go marching in." Over the decades, new versions of the lyrics have repeatedly emerged; the original text cannot be verified due to the early oral tradition. Many artists have taken up the gospel song and released their own interpretations, such as Bruce Springsteen with his session band at a concert in Dublin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6eKkirEcgE

A great little village with an excellent pub, a couple of welcoming cafés and a shop. It's a great pit stop on a run. The six-arch stone bridge which spans the river Barle is about 100 years old.

Beautiful old church. Wonderful stain glass window. Set in a beautiful, well-kept churchyard on the side of a hill at the top of the village.

Tucked away in the heart of Exmoor you’ll find the picturesque moorland village of Withypool. Whether it’s just a short gentle walk or trekking for the whole day, Exmoor has one of England’s most beautiful landscapes for walking. Withypool is set in the heart of Exmoor and is surrounded by walks all over the moors, along the River Barle to Landacre Bridge or Tarr Steps.

Whether you are an experienced walker or someone who prefers a short stroll, Tarr Steps is a great place to go when looking to explore Exmoor National Park. You can head straight there, utilising the on site car park and toilet facilities, with just a gentle walk down to the ancient clapper bridge. The beautiful wooded valley of the River Barle is also worth exploring for its wildlife, as is the heathland of Winsford Hill and its wild ponies in the surrounding countryside. For a short circular walk from the bridge just follow the orange way marks.

Really great village pub, not that touristy (yet?), but with an extremely down-to-earth menu and everything we had was of the best quality. Food is available all day long. Children and dogs (!) have their own menu, fun. Important: as incorrectly stated in another comment, this is NOT the pub of the same name in Luxborough, which is about 12 miles further east!

A tiny, delightful Exmoor village that still looks very original. There's the bridge, a shop/post office/museum, a tea room and a really good pub. Parking spaces are almost non-existent. So it's better to hike here than start from here!

Tarr Steps is the longest clapper bridge in all of Britain. Although the first recorded mention of this bridge dates back to the Tudor times, it may be much older. Due to river sedimentation over the years, when the river level rises significantly, it can sometimes flow over the stones.

This church in Dulverton dates back to the 15th century, although there are records of a church on this site as early as 1155. The tower in Bank Square survives from its origins, but the rest of the church underwent a major reconstruction in the mid-19th century.

Although there is record of a church existing on this site in 1155, the building before you dates back to the 15th century, and a significant portion of it was restored in the mid-19th century. It is listed as a Grade II building."

Top 100 Climbs 6 Exmoor Forest The town of Lynmouth lies at the base of three stiff climbs - the very tough Countisbury Hill, the shorter and steeper Lynton Hill, and finally the long road heading up onto Exmoor. It;s this route from sea level to the top of Hoar Tor that provides the most climbing. A tiny kick out of town soon eases into a steady gradient as the road follows the river through the valley. Past a car park, you reach the left turn for the B3223 and cross the bridge onto the harder inclines. You wouldn't expect to reach the top of Exmoor without some serious toil and this middle stretch gives you just that. Keep pushing and you'll reach a couple of hairpin bends - first left, then back on yourself, then right - which deliver you onto the gentler higher slopes. Now above the trees, the well surfaced but rough - topped road, populated by sheep, grinds on and on, finally petering out just before Blackpitts Gate.

This 18th-century pub is a great place to find some food if you're hiking in the area. It has rooms too, if you're looking for overnight accommodation and welcomes dogs both in the restaurant and overnight.
