The castle complex consists of the north and south castles. The north castle is a ruined structure with a keep, gatehouses, curtain wall, and chapel. The inhabited south castle is grouped around a courtyard. The church is a beautiful contrast to the impressive castle ruins and rocks in the surrounding area: peace, history and nature combined in a small village.

The Lange Streif is a magnificent example of the typical rocky landscape of the Haßberge – wild, pristine and full of character.

Banz Monastery is one of the most famous sights in the region.

The castle, towering 150 meters above the Weisach Valley, is a widely visible symbol of power and history. First documented in 1126, it served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Stein for centuries. In 1895, it passed to the Barons of Rotenhan and finally to the Haßberge district in 1972. A beautiful trail, also rideable with regular bikes in good weather.

Once you emerge from the forest and climb the Haßberge Mountains, if the visibility is good, you'll see the 14-heiligen for the first time and, a little further to the left, Banz Monastery. From here, you walk until about 6 p.m. to reach the basilica.
