At the end of Altmühlstraße is the Altmühl Gate; like the Danube Gate, it was built in the mid-13th century. In front of the gate was a spacious gatehouse, which was demolished in May 1875. This created a spacious plaza between the gate and the former bridge over the Altmühl. On the south side of the Altmühl Gate, the Kelheim city coat of arms is depicted, as it was used from 1410 to 1809. In its lower half, the coat of arms bears vine branches with blue grapes.
