Mühleweiher Heiligkreutztal Klostermühle and Mahlweiher Heiligkreuztal Built around 1470 as a massive building with a stepped gable. The water wheel of the monastery mill, which was closed down in the first half of the 19th century, is still there. The former Cistercian monastery complex, predominantly preserved and lovingly restored in the late Gothic style, is worth seeing. Today it is used as a spiritual center and educational center for the Stefanus Community with its own annual program and is open to groups of guests. Monastery tours by arrangement. Monastery festival in summer. Brother Klaus Vision Path, Heiligkreuztal Monastery The contemplation images are intended to encourage people to meditate on the visions of Nicholas of Flüe (1417 – 1487). His visions revealed to him a deeper perspective on his personal, as well as on the social and ecclesiastical situation. Since then they have been a source of inspiration and strength for many. The Swiss artist Alois Spichtig (born 1927), whose works can be found in over 30 sacred rooms in Switzerland, discovered the visions of this saint when he was around 50 years old. He artistically developed these visions, especially in the places where mystics and hermits worked. The Stefanus community asked him to create a vision path for Heiligkreuztal. This was made possible by the cooperation with a younger "art worker", Toni Halter (born 1973), who has now created the sculptures together with Alois Spichtig in the niches of the western inner cloister wall Text / Source: Heiligkreuztal Monastery, Am Münster, 88499 Altheim-Heiligkreuztal https://kloster-heiligkreuztal.com/

Heiligkreuztal Monastery - The Story CISTERCIAN CONVENT The monastery was founded in 1227. A community of pious women had already come together in the neighboring village of Altheim 80 years earlier and were then allowed to join the Cistercian religious order. The monastery was named after a valuable relic, a splinter of Jesus' cross, donated by Count Egon von Griningen-Landau. The construction of the Romanesque monastery in the place initially known as "Wazzershaf" took almost twenty years. THE FIRST HOUSE OF GOD IN HEILIGKREUZTAL THE BROTHERS' CHURCH WITH NUNS' EVENING The brother church is referred to as the original church of Heiligkreuztal: it was built first. The nuns' gallery, the heart of the nunnery, projects from the brother church into the monastery church. The gallery has been a Protestant place of worship since the mid-19th century. Monastery Church of the Heiligkreuztal Monastery ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL IN UPPER SWABIA The three-nave church was consecrated in 1319 in honor of Mary and the Holy Cross. Already at this time it had received a valuable decoration with the large colored choir window. High-quality wall paintings and altars were added in the 16th and 18th centuries. The exterior of the building leaves a lot to be desired. However, the St. Anna Minster is well worth seeing. The bathing pond is only for house guests. Very dry at the moment.
