Likely the oldest mine in Alpirsbach The name originates from former mining activity. Records indicate that ore was sought at this location in the 16th century. This would make it one of the oldest mines in Alpirsbach. The old name "Goldloch" (Gold Hole) recalls the search for gold in this mine, a hope that was never fulfilled, neither then nor after mining resumed in the 18th century. The mine was already out of operation by 1736. Today, the entrance is reinforced with a sandstone frame and closed with a gate. A drainage pipe carries the mine water under the path to the stream. A relic of the former mining activity is the old spoil heap (the largest still clearly visible spoil heap in Alpirsbach). The area around the Goldbrunnen (Gold Fountain) is now a Flora-Fauna-Habitat area. The area is used by the local population for recreation.
