The Priory Church of St Peter with its monastery (Dunstable Priory) was founded in 1132 by Henry I for Augustinian Canons in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England. St Peter's today is only the nave of what remains of an originally much larger Augustinian priory church. The monastic buildings consisted of a dormitory for the monks, an infirmary, stables, workshops, bakehouse, brewhouse and buttery. There was also a hostel for pilgrims and travellers, the remains of which is known today as Priory House. Opposite the Priory was one of the royal palaces belonging to Henry I, known as Kingsbury.

A local back lane through the Hamlet of Clipstone.. It is tarmacked and prone to potholes after a winter. Clipstone is a small hamlet just outside Leighton Buzzard. It was first recorded in the records as Clapeston in the 1190s. The name is considered to be part Old English and part Scandinavian. This means it may date to the Danish invasions of the 8th and 9th Centuries! The first part of the name (Clip) comes from the Scandinavian name Klyppr and the second part (ton) means town, settlement or enclosed farm. Therefore, the name means Klyppr's settlement. As usual, we don't know who Klyppr was but he must have been an important man to have a settlement named after him!

St. Mary’s Church has a rich and long history, being almost 900 years old. It has been rebuilt and refurbished constantly over the centuries. The Church is one of the largest in Bedfordshire and considered a fine example of medieval architecture. It is the only Grade 1 listed building in Luton. The site of St. Mary’s has been the centre of worship for people in the area for over 1,000 years, and a church was built in about 930 AD by King Athelstan as an act of thanksgiving for victory over the Danes. The land here was owned by the king in Saxon and early Norman times and the church was very richly endowed.

The village green is pleasant spot to rest a while. The Pump House and Clock Tower (which has become the symbol of the village) was built in 1873. Grassy chalky bridleway, well worth it for the views of Dunstable Downs to the South and open countryside to the North. Chalk can be slippy when wet so take care on the descent if ground it wet

Along side the express bus lane there is a biek path that takes you out of Luton to Dunstable.

This was recently resurfaced, and is thus a pleasure to ride.

Once owned by the King of England, this small village has 26 grade II listed buildings and is home to gold medalist Kriss Akabusi MBE.

A nice pub near Stoke Hammond and Soulbury that sits next the canal. Great food and very friendly staff. Lots of outside seating available and a bike rack out the front. From here you can take the towpath north to Milton Keynes or south to Leighton Buzzard

St Mary’s is a striking parish church in the centre of Luton. The Grade I-listed structure predominantly dates to the 14th and 15th centuries but some earlier building work survives. The 15th-century Wenlock Chapel contains several monuments, brasses and tombs for members of Wenlock and Rotheram family.

Great track, peaceful and a nice downhill assist heading west out of Dunstable.
