A beautiful place, snowshoes or crampons are essential in winter.

After a series of steep steps, your reward is a glorious view across Isokuru, Finland's deepest gorge at around 220 metres. It's a real highlight of the Karhunjuomalampi Trail, a 10-kilometre route that takes in the gorge.

This little wilderness hut lies at the southeastern entrance to the Isokuru gorge, the deepest in Finland. It's a fine place to enjoy a snack before or after taking on the trails through the spectacular gorge.

Isokuru is Finland's deepest gorge, at about 220 metres deep. It is one of the main attractions of the Karhunjuomalampi Trail, which begins from Pyhä-Luosto Visitor and Culture Center.

This hut on the way up Saana has a fireplace and offers decent shelter. It's a good spot to take stock before a run up to the summit.

This viewpoint on the trail to Saana provides excellent views across Ylinen Kilpisjärvi. From here, you can gaze across three great Scandinavian nations: Finland, Sweden and Norway.

An iconic and shapely peak that's held sacred by Sámi people, Saana rises on the border between Finland, Sweden and Norway. To celebrate a century of Finland's independence, the mountain was lit in blue light in Decemeber 2017, the largest such illumination in the world.
