The views from both Great Links and Brat Tor are incredible. On a clear day you can see both the North Coast and South Coast as well as Bodmin Moor. The River Lyd stepping stone crossing is nice but there is still a wooden bridge crossing if you are a little unsteady on your feet.

The first impression of this simple but solidly crafted small sacred monument from 1887 is powerful and imposing. The lonely stone cross can be seen from afar thanks to its exposed location. The ancient, venerable cross is a natural part of this environment and one could almost think that it is literally growing out of the rock from which it rises to a proud height.

West Mill Tor is an easy climb from the base of Yes Tor and offers fantastic views in all directions. A sizeable outcrop with various routes to climb to get to the top, varying from safe and simple to steep and trechuous. There is a small stream to cross at the base between Yes Tor and the ground can be waterlogged so will require abit of dry hopping or good footwear.

The ever so slightly smaller summit of High Willhays, Yes Tor feels grander due to the large granite outcrop. Standing beside the triangulation point atop of Yes Tor offers beautiful views in all directions. A must climb if hiking with the Meldon area.

4月 14, 2024, High Willhays Summit
Highest point of Devon and Southern England at 621m, accesible form various routes within the area. Although not as grand or striking as other Tors in the area such as Yes, Great Links or West Mills it offers beautiful 360 degree views in all directions.

High Willhays is the highest point but it’s neighbour yes tor always feels somewhat grander, for a steep descent and climb head down past fordsland ledge into the okemont valley and back up to kitty tor

8月 8, 2023, Yes Tor Summit
At 2,031 feet (619 m) Yes Tor is lower than neighbouring High Willhays, but it's arguably the better summit. The rocky summit tor is topped with a trig point, military shelter box and a flag pole used to mark when the range is in use. It's a great viewpoint in the northwestern edge of Dartmoor and a brilliant run destination.

Make sure to check out the military times. As drills are taken out here on certain days.

The higher part of the park but slightly underwhelming in comparison to Yes Tor or Great Links Tor. A must to visit though and the nearby Fordsland Ledge boasts a stunning view of the Okemont Valley.

One of my favourite tors on the park for prominence and height. Feels more impressive than it's slightly greater neighbour hill willhays.

Just below Belstone Tor, Higher Tor is huge. The granite rocks extend across the hillside and give a glimpse into the past when the whole of the area would have been strewn with rock. Running up here you'll find rewarding views across to Yes Tor in the West and Cosdon Hill in the east.

If you are hiking to Yes Tor, don't pass by West Mill Tor without a visit. It almost looks like the ruins of a castle and is very recognisable. The views from up here take you all the way across to Exmoor National Park in the north or south west to Yes Tor. Simply stunning.

This majestic tor sits a short distance below the castellated peaks of Belstone Tor but retains its own character and is very distinct. Its huge granite mass, which from certain angles is block-like, is on the southern side of Belstone Common. The tor is a truly epic rock formation in its own right that is noted for its striking jointings, looking a little like tightly packed cubes that are accentuated by patches of moor grass. Indeed, Hemery (1983) describes it as a "splendid ruin of Nature" that "has a massive east face - resembling cyclopean masonry - and a huge break-away on both south and west sides." Collingwood (2017) later remarks that "Its bulk and pattern of jointing make it unforgettable." Higher Tor affords terrific views in all directions, even to the north where the fine southern outcrop of Belstone Tor stands in stark contrast as a smooth-faced pile. To the south, Oke Tor sits on the elongated ridgeline that extends towards Knack, but it is perhaps the grand Steeperton Hill, that is topped by Steeperton Tor, that is the most conspicuous landmark towering high above Taw Marsh. Whilst modern Ordnance Survey Maps place Higher Tor south of the ridge summit where Belstone Tor resides, that was not always the case. The survey of Devon, by Lieutenant Colonel William Mudge, in 1809, named the summit 'Higher Tor' as one might expect and placed Belstone where Higher is now. Whilst it makes sense that the highest point on the ridge would be named 'Higher Tor', later surveys were amended and this is now the accepted location. This alteration juxtaposes the widely accurate survey of Mudge and the reason for the movement of the two names remains to be seen. It is an anomaly that rarely, if ever, receives attention. The entire moorscape, capped by tremendous rockpiles as far as the eye can see, is well worth a visit, and the visitor will not be left disappointed by what he finds here, as it is one of the most captivating pieces of scenery on Dartmoor.

When pitching up on Yes Tor always look at the wind profile and find a pitch as sheltered as possible. It can be an absolute wind tunnel when it wants to.
