This cycleway travels along the Exeter Flood Relief Channel, which is a man-made waterway designed to help manage flood risks for the city of Exeter.

Brilliant stretch of canal path that leads out to Dawlish, the surface is great in most areas and any bike should be able to get around this path. However if you have a accessibility trike there are some narrow sections and bridge that might make this path very difficult to use.

Stop just before climbing through Abbeyford woods on the Atlantic coast route.

Lovely cafe, lovely cake. Also a florist and sells a few craft/local produce items.

Sticklepath stores and cafe. You can sit outside with your bike and watch the world go by. Home made cakes were ridiculously cheap, too, and happy to top up water bottles 🙂

Food is good and prices are reasonable.

You'll be hard stretched to find a beer garden that rivals this one, with views right out onto the moorland from The Tors Inn at the heart of Belstone. The Tors Inn itself also comes highly recommended, whether you're looking for a hearty meal or a quick drink and chips! In the summer months, they also open their outside bar which makes it all too easy...

the ridge amazing food and coffee

Excellent coffee and bagels with a rear courtyard where you can sit with your bike. Very friendly team too!

The tarmac option following Exeter Ship Canal from the Swing Bridge near Countess Wear, there's also a parallel gravel road through Riverside Valley Park that's accessible by bike if you fancy. A smooth and flat run into town or out, but take care as pedestrians and cyclists share the path here and it can become busy at peak times.

Brilliant straight stretch of segregated cycleway with adjacent footway through the Riverside Valley Park nature reserve, managed by Devon Wildlife Trust. A fantastic entry/exit from Exeter City Centre without the traffic and totally flat. Lots of birds to be seen from here too!

I stayed in a BnB called Brookside Cottage. Lovely owners and dog. Very good breakfast and incredibly accepting of bringing the bike in.

Best place in North Devon for bike selection and bike service . Helped me set up my new Wahoo Bike computer - nothing too much for these people. Taw Velo Cycle groups organised from here and an annual charity ride called the 'Smugglers ' which is a grand day with BBQ on finish line.

Cycle path from here is the gateway to many destinations, Topsham, Exmouth, Exminster, Turf Hotel, Powderham, Starcross & Dawlish to name a few.

Great shop with a huge selection of bikes of all kinds and for all ages as well as clothes and accessories. Great cafe attached which serves a very good coffe. Friendly and helpful staff to boot, thoroughly recommended!
