The heart of historic Hertford with it's castle and old inn at the gateway to London proper. Great place to stop and take a look around.

It is actually possible - and permissable - to cycle through the grounds of Hertford Castle.

Really enjoyed visiting Hertford Castle. Feels like stepping back in time to the days of William The Conquerer!! 🚴🏼‍♂️

Strawberry Hill Pond is located within Epping Forest and provides a peaceful retreat perfect for a rest and picnic following a forest walk. The pond is enveloped by conifers and sweet chestnut trees and has a very tranquil and pleasant feel to it. There's a little wooden bench next to the water where you can sit and soak up the atmosphere.

run to the back of Strawberry Hill Ponds off the main path. Into some fun single trails towards the Green Ride.

Lovely stretch through Epping Forest

The historic Hertfordshire county town, Hertford dates back to the 10th century and is nestled at the confluence of no less than four rivers: the Lea, Mimram, Beane and Rib. The town is home to the Norman Hertford Castle, which is Grade II-listed. Hertford is the starting point of the New River Path and also features on the Hertfordshire Way and Lea Valley Walk long-distance trails. There is a plethora of amenities and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat.

Great quality surface, quiet traffic and beautiful scenery around you as you go through Epping Forest. A really great road to ride on.

A beautiful road through the middle of Epping Forest to catch your breath in after climbing Mott Street or Jacks Hill. Really low traffic levels and perfect tarmac with no potholes.

As always, go early in the morning to enjoy the beauty of this stretch. The side of the road is prone to have massive potholes, so I suggest keeping to the middle of the lane.

Be careful narrow road, some people drive without driving licenses, they don't know the highway code and don't bother slowing down for cyclists!

Heading north Wake Road seems like a lesser used road up to the Miller&Carter roundabout. Smooth tarmac with no potholes to dodge, a barely noticeable incline, and very few cars (or perhaps I just got lucky). The woodland on either side seems to absorb the local traffic noise and with the sun shining down it's a lovely few minutes of escapism on two wheels.

Beautiful place , small castle with big history, definitely worth a visit

Fun climb, varying steepness and decent length. Much nicer than the long badly sealed Epping New Road.

If, like me, you enjoy climbing despite not being an expert and you enjoy tree cover and forest without being totally isolated - cars do go along this road - then this is for you. A really nice climb up into the Epping Forest.

Great decent, just watch for cars and corners.
