Cumberland Garden in Redbourn, Hertfordshire, is a public, walled garden with a rich history. Originally part of the grounds of Cumberland House, which was believed to have been built as a hunting lodge for the Duke of Cumberland around 1745, the garden was donated to the Parish in 2007. It's now a tranquil spot with lawns, mature trees, and flowerbeds, used for local events like 'Gigs in the Garden'. Good park with shadows lots of trees, great walkways or cyclepath

Verulamium Park consists of 100 acres (40 hectares) of beautiful parkland close to the centre of St Albans. It hosts a load of facilities and also holds Roman architectural remains by way of the old city walls and the outline of London Gate. This is the Westiminster Lodge entrance, and there is car parking nearby.

Two very lovely ladies running the cafe. Shopfront and indoors were very cute. There was not much of a variety of choices to eat for me, as I prefer simple bakery (croissants, carrot cake, flapjack etc.) over pies and creamy cakes.

Note that the line runs well below street level and thus needs to be accessed by a longer flight of stairs at this entry point. With a bikepacking load, a better alternative seems to be a ramp on Ambrose Lane, which I only discovered in hindsight.

Ayot Greenway is a wonderful off-road link out of Welwyn Garden City toward the Chilterns, which can be subsequently combined with The Nickey Line.

It is a nice pub with a big beer garden that has a place to lock your bikes up. Good selection of beers and a relaxed atmosphere.

When you come out the door of St Alban's City station, turn immediately right, to join the route. The cycleway goes over a bridge, along a pathway and then left through an arch into a housing estate, it is not instinctive, it eventually drops down onto the Alban Way, then turn left!
