Lovely sailing lake with plenty of wildlife

Officially the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban this is predominantly a Norman cathedral. It is thought to have been founded in the 8th century, but the building is mostly 11th century with 19th century gothic additions. It has the longest naive of any English cathedral.

Cycling ius prohibited within the estate, so good for a stand alone visit but not a cycle thru.

Cafe Aroma is a nice little cafe where you can get a quality All Day Breakfast for less than a tenner (as at Oct 24). There's also cakes and quite a wide-ranging lunch menu. I like to sit in the little outside area looking onto the street and watch the world go by. The cafe is on quite a busy road in the centre of Southdown. There is an area nearby to lock up bikes 🚴🏼‍♂️

Tewin is a beautiful little village nestled between Welwyn Garden City and Herford. It is a quintessential English village with not one but two scenic village greens, a village shop, and even two pubs. Saint Peter's church forms the religious fulcrum of the village, while the Memorial Hall forms the social hub of the hamlet, unless you like your pint of Guiness, and if that's the case, the social hub will be one of the two pubs!

A nice section of relatively quiet road north of Lilley. It's undulating rather than hilly and very nice to avoid the busy A6 or A505 which I wouldn't recommend.
