At a main crossroads of the Bristol - Bath cycle path, there is this. Mangotsfield railway station. It's now been taken over by nature & is utterly gorgeous! Opened in 1869, and lasting all the way to closing 100 years later, it had a really good run! It goes to show how quickly times were changing in the 19th & 20th centuries. What I love about it is that it's been left there. It's so surreal & beautiful. The platforms are obvious, a similar height to today, and there's a waiting room structure as well. It's all been reclaimed by nature in the last (almost) 50 years. If we allow nature the time and space; it will come back.

Brandy Bottom Colliery, located just off the Bath-Bristol cycle path, was an important coal mining site in the 19th century, particularly known for its deep mine workings. Perfect place for a mid ride treat!

Pretty firm in summer, drains well in the spring/autumn. Can be a bit of a mudbath in winter. I've done it on a road bike many times but I would recommend 30mm tyres and above.

This is the sort of climb that's a bit of a challenge on a touring bike but easy on a road bike. You can go as hard as you can manage since you can see where it eases off pretty much from the bottom.

Opened in 1918 the signal box controlled the level crossing here. The railways closed between 1966 and 1968 but a local chap rented the box and thus stopped it being destroyed. It's now a grade 2 listed building and was restored by the council. Today the friends of the area look after the box, cafe and community garden.

This is good in both directions but rocky and steep in places.

Great cafe ideal for cyclists

A very quiet lane, which is more akin to a gravel track in places. Doable on any bike, but not sure I would take a superbike down there! If you're going to or coming from Spring Lane (Avon Cycleway) joining the main road can be avoided by the 5 metres of pavement between the two.

A great alternative to the ring road track. The Pomphrey Hill end is a little muddy in winter, but nothing too bad. The other end is magnificent gravel and the middle compacted hardcore.

A nice highlight. Highly recommended

Great little café in Sherston. Great food and friendly staff. I'll be coming back here again soon. Very popular with cyclists.
