Two pubs - a traditional Hope and Anchor and a more contemporary craft and pizza place next door.

Signs say dogs on leads.... slightly annoying, if your dog likes to cool down with a swim.

9月 21, 2023, Sherman Tank Memorial
This American Sherman Tank was recovered from the sea in 1984. It is a memorial to those who lost their lives during exercise Tiger. Exercise Tiger was ill-fated with instances of friendly fire, miss managed communications and amidst the confusion German fast attack boats slipped in amongst the landing craft and sunk a couple. About 700 allies lost their lives here practising for the D-Day landings.

8月 8, 2023, Prawle Point
Prawle Point is the southernmost point of Devon. There is a coastguard lookout point here with an interesting information board. The South West Coast Path passes here and the running is excellent in both directions.

There are certainly many highlights here, the special being the South Sands Ferry. There is no dock at the South Sand. A kind of tractor drives into the water there, where the ferry then docks. Very picturesque!

The next beach to the north has clearer water to swim in. All depends on what you want from your swim water, and the time of the day. Later in the afternoon, the sun goes behind the cliffs to the west and there is no sun on the beach.

Lots of times there you see one or more rich guys playthings in the sea. But they are usually well-behaved and it doesn't seem to attract JetSkiers and all the associated noise.

A beautiful little cove, with great rock pools when the tide it out! Although there is great surf in the area, beware that there is a lot of rocks covering the cove which can be seen when the tide is out.

An absolute gem of a beach. You can only reach Maceley Cove by foot so it is a perfectly secluded spot to swim, picnic and relax.

7月 29, 2022, Sherman Tank Memorial
This restored Sherman Tank was recovered from the sea in 1984 and commemorates the tragic loss of life in 1944 on Exercise Tiger. The exercise went badly wrong after the arrival of German U-Boats and was kept quiet for many years. A number of the US servicemen who died are still buried in unmarked graves. Further information can be found here https://www.submerged.co.uk/slapton/ In the build up to the D-Day Landings, Torcross and its beach were used as a training area due to its resemblance to the Normandy beaches. Around 300 residents were evacuated

Hope is a charming village with two beaches including Hope Cove. Excellent for swimming, enjoy the clear water and relaxed atmosphere before checking out the cafes and ice cream outlets. The cove gets busy in summer but there's usually a spot you can call your own.

10月 1, 2020, Prawle Point
The jagged coastline of the South Hams is a notorious ‘ship trap’, which it’s said was exploited by unscrupulous ‘wreckers’ who would lure vessels to their doom. The fables are likely somewhat exaggerated, but a walk from East Prawle to Prawle Point is full of drama, mystery and stunning, fangy sea-rocks.

7月 5, 2019, Prawle Point
The coastline around Prawle is one of the most beautiful stretches in Devon, and marks the southernmost point in the county. Prawle Point is a haven for bird watchers. Migrant birds arrive here first in the spring and gather here before their long flights in the autumn. Keep a look-out for buzzards, ravens, hawks, cirl bunting, and nightingales. The whole stretch of the coastline from Mill Bay to Start Point is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and most of it is owned by the National Trust.

7月 5, 2019, South Sands Beach
South Sands is one of the most unspoilt beaches in South Devon. It’s located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the mouth of the estuary. South Sands is actually part of a cove so is sheltered from the sea winds and affords a delightful sun trap if you want to relax.
