A classic English holiday destination, Paignton's pier is brimming with activities for the whole family. It was opened to the public in 1879 and saw theatrical performances and other entertainment. Today, it's as popular as ever, with arcades, fairground rides, food outlets and bumper cars.

Dartmoor has a fascinating industrial past and its myriad disused quarries are some of the clearest evidence. Just to the east of the phenomenal Haytor Rocks, lies Haytor Quarry. Part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest, this quarry is quite difficult to find, as it’s tucked away well out of sight if you’re just rambling about. The granite removed from the quarry was transported on the granite tramway which ran from Haytor, through the enormous Stover family estate to be taken to the Channel via the Stover canal and shipped. The quarry also resides in an area with plenty of evidence of ancient human habitation, with Bronze Age hut circles dotted around the immediate region.

From Haytor Rocks you are afforded spellbinding views over Dartmoor and over the Devon coastline. If you climb to the top of the rocks it gets even better - a full and utterly breathtaking panorama awaits.

When in the Haytor vale it is hard to not notice the huge imposing figure that is Haytor Rocks, and with great reason. This outcrop attracts many people of all ages and rock climbers alike, attempting to either climb or abseil down this great structure.
