Burghley House is always worth a wander through. It has wide shared paths for walking and cycling so it's just for slow speeds. Free parking if you have a car.

Some lovely bikes for purchasing. knowledgeable staff. Well stocked assortment of accessories.

Friendly owner and staff.. bit pricey and am not particularly sure they are full pint glasses

Red Lion Square is a historic market place and the center of Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, known for its cobbled surface.

The castle was built between 1180 and 1190 by Walkelin de Ferrers, lord of the manor of Oakham, and a great nephew of Robert de Ferrers, 1st Earl of Derby.[1] The Great Hall comprises a nave and two arcaded aisles, each with three large stone columns. There are a number of 12th-century sculptures decorating the hall including six musicians that are supported by the columns. The sculptures are carved from local stone quarried at Clipsham and are believed to have been made by masons who had also worked at Canterbury Cathedral.[2]

Impressive parkland thanks to C Brown. Whilst in the area pedal a few miles along the quiet roads on the north and east sides of the estate to visit the Hills and Holes National Nature Reserve in Barnack.

NT doesn't encourage cycling in the wider estate, but it's straightforward to cycle through in either direction from the main entrance along the newly resurfaced mile long South Drive and through the (time controlled) pedestrian gate onto Belton Lane. Recently they've been giving out coffee vouchers to people arriving on foot or by cycle at the entrance booths near the car park. They're trying to encourage low carbon visitors.

Ride over this lovely bridge in Ketton, heading south, and within a mile you will be tackling the steady climb to Collyweston featured in these pages.

Cafe provides excellent food at reasonable prices. Plenty of outside seats and bike racks. Only 1 toilet so expect to que. Well worth a stop on your ride.
