Classic cafe stop in the area, always plenty of cyclists and places to put your bike.

Long gravel byway heading North is generally a gentle uphill run. good surface gets a bit over grown in late summer with brambles but a wide track so avoidable. Popular with horse riders so be prepared to stop and get out of the way (thay are bigger and not as placid as our bikes :)) Very good ride.

Recommend taking the right onto Mill road and cutting out west Wickham. A lot of loose sharp gravel on these farm roads, got punctures on road bike.

The northern end near Sturmer is narrow and twisting but the surface is fairly decent, especially as you climb away from the junction with the main road, but the road towards Steeple Bumpstead is in poor condition and covered in piles of loose sand and stones. One that’s better for the tourers than the roadies.

Excellent gravel road, even after heavy rain it doesn’t get muddy at all. Highly recommend

Go down the lane to the left of the main building to reach the garden and bike parking area behind. The front entrance is for drivers using the car park.

Watch for the offset crossroads as you swing through the fast right-left bend at the bottom of the dip on the Balsham-West Wickham road.
