In the valley below Great Elm, a charming bridge crosses the Mells River, with a bench on the riverbank offering a peaceful spot to enjoy the views or take a refreshing dip. A layby on one side of the river provides convenient parking if you'd like to start your journey here.

This picturesque moated medieval castle was built in the 1370s by Sir John de la Mare. It's heavily influenced by French design and features a compact layout with four round corner towers and thick defensice walls.

Passable on my laden touring bike with 32mm tyres, but only just...definetly not suitable for a racing bike!

Wellow Ford. Goes without saying this can flood and become impassable for bikes.

Discover this pretty little ford in the picturesque village of Wellow located in the southern tip of the Cotswolds. After a spell of heavy rain, the water may be too high to cross, so you'll have to take the neighbouring bridge to complete your loop.

They've repaved most of this with lovely tarmac meaning the hills aren't quite so tough with a full touring rig

A nice section of the Colliers Way Cycle Route. It runs alongside Wellow Brook and passes Stoney Littleton long barrow.
