Nice smooth cycle way from Nailsea to Bristol. NCR 33

Super country lanes that take you all the way from Portbury, through Clapton and on to Clevedon, keeping away from the main roads. The Black Horse (Kicker) pub Clapton Lane is well worth a stop 👍

Low traffic road, lovely

The floating harbour was opened in 1809. This revolutionised Bristols harbour, trapping waters of the tidal river and allowing boast to remain afloat. Two sets of locks control the water level in the harbour. The commercial use of the harbour stopped in 1975, since then it has transformed into the vibrant leisure area you see today.

Great view of the Avon Gorge and Clifton Suspension Bridge.

All around a great park with a wheel park, lake, tennis court, basketball court, kids playground and lots of space to explore

Beautiful countryside estate just a few minutes ride from Bristol city centre. The estate has a manor house with a little cafe attached and toilets. The gardens are open to the public and feature some interesting new sculptures. The grounds have a range of bridleways if you fancy getting off the tarmac and great MTB trails if you want to switch it up completely. There's also football golf, frisbee golf and MTB hire!

For walkers: this road is too dangerous to walk up by foot. Take a detour through the woods to the east instead

The descent of Cheddar Gorge is one of the easiest bits of any ride, but is just reward for making it up there in the first place.

Classic Mendip climb. Just ride it!

Don't be put off by reports that the Gorge is too busy or difficult... once you're past the tourist trap at the bottom it quietens down considerably and the hard climbing is relatively short lived (plus you're in jaw-dropping scenery!) Both of these slight inconveniences are worth overcoming for the top section of road, which gentle rises, firstly through beautiful woodlands and then through open fields, both as stunning as the Gorge itself in their own way!

Not as hard or as busy as I thought it would be... and I went on a sunny Saturday in May! The bottom is tourist heaven or hell depending on your point of view, it gets quieter when you get to the serious stuff in the middle and the top shallower section (which is lovely) is very tranquil in comparison. There's only one steep and fairly sort section... 20% max, the rest is around 10% and the top only around 5%... it's a joy... go on you'll love it!

Great road that connects Yatton to lots of different droves and lanes in and around Nailsea. Lots to explore and completely flat lanes brilliant for road cycling
