The concrete outlet tower serves as the central control point for the reservoir's water supply. Connected by a bridge to the main dam, the tower houses sluice gates and valves that regulate the flow and distribution of water to the River Chew and the local water supply.

This ride takes in mostly roads, some main roads , not suitable for kids. Need some adjustments. I will do this route again and make sure the whole circuit is bike friendly using green paths & quiet roads.

I don’t usually like audio guides but this was really well done. Interesting castle history, but also the characters and stories. And the chapel at the end is an excellent finale. I spent almost an hour here. No cafe but you can get tea/coffee/ ice cream. A good stop!

Great stretch of road, I know I am nearly at Bristol, or just getting started. Either way I cannot help but stop and enjoy the view, just stunning.

A great climb, pure type 2 fun. It's brutal and never-ending!

Chew Valley Lake is a well-known scenic beauty spot, top quality fly-fising destination and the fifth largest artificial lake in the UK. It’s also a haven for birdwatchers, with wildfowl and migrating birds often seen feeding in the reed beds around the water.

Known locally as "Two Trees", this is a brutal climb. It basically goes straight up the shortest route to the top.

Descending Blagdon- fun but make sure you can trust your tyres and brakes!

Chew Valley Lake is the 5th largest artificial lake in the UK. It was constructed in the 1950s to supply drinking water for Bristol and the nearby area. There are brilliant views of the lake and surrounding countryside as you pass along the dam.

The top of the Ridge Road climb. A bit of a bastard but less of a slog than Compton Martin. Less cars than the old Bristol road but worse surface. Pick your poison Also the top of the Western Lane climb which gets really steep for a 100m or so.

Beautiful scenery and smooth enough road surface

It just keeps going. Sharp almost immediately and even before the main road, this winds its way up through the trees and has more to throw at you after that. I reckon this is on par with Blagdon for difficulty but the surface is less reliable. Of course it's called the Wrangle

Even getting up to Blagdon is tough, with some spots pushing 12%. Once you've passed the main road and avoided the tempting coffee stop a sustained section of 10% gives way to relative flat. Go round a corner and you're greeted with a wall at 15-17. And you might think, oh yeah that's fine. Nope. Once you're out of the village it's a long draggy section of 7-9% with little rest and no shade whatsoever. That's what will finish you off. On the plus side you don't have to tangle with nearly as many cars as Burrington.
