The concrete outlet tower serves as the central control point for the reservoir's water supply. Connected by a bridge to the main dam, the tower houses sluice gates and valves that regulate the flow and distribution of water to the River Chew and the local water supply.

I'd pick a different route on the gravel bike, so glad I tested on the mountain bike first. The drop is quite sharp and is very rutted in the southern end. The western end has an uneven camber for a hundred yards or so before returning to double track. Looks like there's some lovely meadows either side with gates st the bottom of the valley. Good place to take a break before heading back up.
