Very beautiful and pleasant

Steep Steps down to the river and for view of the aqueduct are on the Bradford on Avon side.

Lovely views to the River Avon across this historic bridge. Dating from the 13th or 14th C

the point at which the Kennet and Avon canal crossed the river and railway line via the Aqueduct built by John Rennie & John Thomas between 1797 and 1801. Good pub here which will reopen summer 2025. This is on the main railway line now becoming a regular (request?) stop since 2011

From Bath to here on a road bike with 25mm is doable but take it easy, further on, its a little rougher and 35mm would be better. here is a good stop of lunch or a drink

Amazing for autumn colours

I did this ride yesterday. It was deliciously cool on a hot day, and condensation drips do fall from the ceiling, but no problem for us. Both tunnels were lit tho pedestrians were tricky to spot and a bell was useful. We enjoyed the soundscape. I was pleased to have a light so I was visible to those cycling the other way. We encountered a group with a wheelchair user and it was tricky to spot her for those with no lights. A great place to bring kids for an adventure.

The longest cycling and walking tunnel in the UK - 1,672 metres long to be precise! The Two Tunnels path is very wide and smooth so it’s perfect for small children who are not very confident yet, or for little ones on balance bikes. It is nearly flat as well, so great for smaller legs or kids who are learning to ride a bike. Don’t forget to take lights with you because the tunnels have some lighting, but a front and rear light are advised. Also remember that the tunnel might be cold on a hot summer day.The tunnels feature lights and music!

Dundas Aqueduct carries the Kennet & Avon canal over the river Avon and the railway. It was opened in 1805 and designed by famous architect John Rennie. Very quiet cycling in a miniature valley. The narrow 'tow' paths do not allow side-by-side or fast driving. Walkers with or without a dog, runners, small boat residents who get on and off their craft, you will certainly meet them. Moderate speed is a must. After a downpour you will undoubtedly find numerous puddles and rather muddy passages. Watch out is all the more important. If you pass under a bridge, keep in mind that you cannot pass with two, giving a ringing signal can prevent a lot of misery. Let yourself be enchanted by nature, look around you and enjoy. Light gravel, doable if you have a road bike

The town bridge was originally constructed in the 14th century, then widened in the 18th century. If you view the bridge from the downstream side the arches are rounded but view from the upstream side and you'll notice that the arches are pointed. The small building on the bridge is thought to have originally been a chapel but was converted into the town lock up in the 17th century.

I regularly cycle through the Two Tunnels. They are dimly lit and the use of your own lights is a necessity if you are to avoid other cyclists and walkers who do not have them and who are hard to see.

Have enjoyed walking this canal footpath in summer time and stopping off at the pub by the Weir. Look out for the wildlife along the way, especially the heron and kingfisher.
