The path through the gorge starts off pretty tame but gets steeper, rockier, wetter, muddier and narrower as you go. It's great fun and packed with interest. If you have average fitness and decent footwear you'll be fine.

The concrete outlet tower serves as the central control point for the reservoir's water supply. Connected by a bridge to the main dam, the tower houses sluice gates and valves that regulate the flow and distribution of water to the River Chew and the local water supply.

On the patronage of this church dedicated to "Saint Lawrence": He is one of the early Christian Roman martyrs from a time when Christianity was still strictly forbidden. He was archdeacon to Pope Sixtus II and, after his execution, was ordered by the pagan Emperor Valerian to hand over the church's treasure. Lawrence asked for three days to do this, distributed the church's assets among the poor inhabitants of Rome, and after the agreed time, came to the emperor with the poor to present them to him as the church's treasure. He was then martyred to death. Legend says he was roasted alive on a grate – this attribute can be seen in many depictions of Saint Lawrence – over coals. He is said to have been in good spirits and to have asked his executioner if he would like to turn him over. Saint Lawrence's feast day in the calendar of saints is August 10, the traditional date of his execution in A.D. 258.

About the patronage of this church: Saint ANDREW is one of the twelve apostles that Jesus Christ called to follow him. However, in the biblical accounts he is usually somewhat overshadowed by his much more famous brother: Saint Peter. In the Gospels we find the calling of the two siblings presented in different ways. According to the text of the Gospel of John (John 1:40-42), Andrew is called first (together with another disciple whose name is not mentioned). Later he tells his brother that he has found the Messiah. The feast of Saint Andrew in the calendar of saints is on November 30th in all major Christian denominations. The X-shaped white "St. Andrew's Cross" on which he was executed forms the national flag of Scotland against a blue background and has also found its way into the national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

Beautiful, somewhat remote church that is always open, unlike churches on the continent. It's worth a visit.

Absolutely lovely, relatively flat throughout and is generally pretty quiet. Some areas have a few bumps thanks to roots and some parts during the wetter winter weather get a couple of centimetres of running water here and there. Overall one of my favourite places to cycle and will continue to feature on my routes!

A truly magnificent Cathedral and a great place to stop for a break. There are benches and a large green in front of the Cathedral. There are also some very pretty surrounding buildings, especially in Vicar's Close.

Brilliant! A beautiful and peaceful cycleway akin to the Bristol to Bath cycleway... but much quieter!

As the seat of an ancient cathedral and diocese, Wells is historically regarded as a city. Its city council boundary area, surrounded wholly by countryside makes Wells the smallest free-standing city in the UK (2.11 sq mi). The City of London is smaller but is part of a much larger urban area.

Incredibly beautiful cathedral that is free to enter, though donation is recommended for the upkeep of such a stunning place. It's in my top 10 cathedrals around the world (and I've been to MANY cathedrals).

Ebbor Gorge is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and National Nature Reserve(NNR). Dramatic limestone gorge with interesting caves of important past climate research. Its ancient woodland combes are rich in wildlife and of the Mendip Hills AONB's special qualities

The Anglican Church of St Lawrence (St Laurence) is situated in the beautiful circular churchyard in Priddy, Somerset, England. The churchyard predates the church, as the building dates from the 13th century, with some rebuilding in the 15th century and was restored in 1881–88 it is now a Grade I listed building. It was dedicated to St Lawrence on 10 August 1352.

St Lawrence’s is a Grade I-listed church nestled in picturesque countryside on the outskirts of Priddy village. The church was built throughout the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. The church boasts some wonderful stained glass windows. Inside, you can observe a Norman font, an unusual 15th-century stone pulpit, 19th-century pews, plus more.

Ebbor Gorge is a magnificent limestone gorge within the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Designated as a national nature reserve, the mixed woodland and deep gorge is home to much flora and fauna, including 250 species of mosses, liverworts and lichens. The caves within the gorge were inhabited by neolithic people and flint tools have been found. The path through the gorge is steep, rocky, wet and muddy. If you have decent footwear and average fitness, you’ll be fine. If you are planning to complete the round walk, I’d recommend going up the gorge (it’s so much fun you don’t notice the effort) and down the meadows (as the views are amazing and with you for the whole descent).

There are two pieces of artwork I spotted on the two consecutive bridges with artwork of fingers pointing. Sustrans: "You will also find seven stacked boulders, reflecting the geological strata of the area and commemorating the pioneering work of the ‘Father of Geology’, William Smith, who mapped the rock types in the West of England in 1799, plotted the canal’s course and lived in a nearby cottage at Tucking Mill." - sustrans.org.uk/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network/colliers-way
