As you roll out of Cheddar village on the B3135, pedalling past the bustling shops and famous cave entrances, the climb begins gently. Soon, leaving the village infrastructure behind, you'll enter the awe-inspiring jaws of the gorge itself. Here, feel the road tilt upwards noticeably, averaging around 4-5% for several kilometres. While not brutally steep overall, you'll encounter sections, particularly around the hairpins in the lower-middle part of the gorge, where the gradient kicks up more firmly, possibly reaching 7-10% momentarily. Absorb the truly spectacular experience of climbing between the towering, ancient limestone cliffs that dwarf you on either side. Be aware you'll likely be sharing this world-famous road with tourist traffic also soaking in the views. As you climb higher, feel the immense walls gradually recede and the gradient ease off, signalling your approach to the top of this iconic Somerset climb.

Set in the rolling hills of the Somerset and Dorset border. There are lots of pretty wildflowers and great views across the lovely blue waters, which attract a wide variety of butterflies such as Small Skipper and Marble White.

Winyard's Gap Inn... incredible views and great beer after a tough climb. Descend with care!

walk out to the end of the pier to get the best views of the Golden East Cliff

Try the small museum and walk all the way along the esplanade to the end of the new pier to really for one of the best views of those golden cliffs and the jurassic coast

To be honest, I don't really rate or recommend the Cornish Bakery. Too much pastry not enough filling. Not saying its bad but it's not as good as you can get. You do however get some interesting fillings. Coffee usually pretty good here though

Views from the bridge over the River Parrett in Langport. Parrett Trail Bikes shop and hire open 9:30 - 16:00 Wed to Sun. Closed Mon and Tue. The Bridge café open 8:00 - 16:00 Wed to Sun. Open until 20:00 on a Fri. Closed Mon and Tue.

A wonderful Hollow Way or a sunken lane typical of this area of the country. These ancient lanes are cut into the landscape but we're not entirely sure why. It could be simply due to erosion by booth people and animals over 100s of years, exacerbated by water run off. They may also have been cut initially to make animal heading easier and to provide protection from the weather. What ever the cause they make for very atmospheric riding!

Built in 1955 Sutton Bingham reservoir is managed by Wessex Water. It's a popular fishing and walking destination and a pretty spot for a stop off while riding around central Dorset. There is a public toilet and bike racks in the car park.
