A very beautiful place when a marathon/half marathon is held. You run along a closed canal, the cathedral is behind you, you end up on Nevsky Prospect - beauty.

In addition, a spacious park, ideal for walking! The Gazprom Arena (Russian "Газпром Арена"; also Saint Petersburg Stadium [1], Krestovsky Stadium, Zenit Stadium) is a football stadium in the Russian metropolis of Saint Petersburg. It has space for 68,134 spectators. [2] The venue was built on Krestowski Ostrow (German Krestowski Island) on the site of the old Kirow stadium, which was demolished in 2006 to make room for the new building. source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gazprom-Arena From photo by A.Savin / crop by Osepu - This file is an excerpt from another file: Spb 06-2017 img40 Krestovsky Stadium.jpg, FAL, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid = 70299129

12月 24, 2020, Palace Square
on of the greatest place i have ever seen. great to run, too! detailsPalace Square (Russian: Дворцо́вая пло́щадь, tr. Dvortsovaya Ploshchad, IPA: [dvɐˈrtsovəjə ˈploɕːɪtʲ]), connecting Nevsky Prospekt with Palace Bridge leading to Vasilievsky Island, is the central city square of St Petersburg and of the former Russian Empire. Many significant events took place there, including the Bloody Sunday massacre and parts of the October Revolution of 1917. Between 1918 and 1944, it was known as Uritsky Square (Russian: площадь Урицкого), in memory of the assassinated leader of the city's Cheka branch, Moisei Uritsky. The earliest and most celebrated building on the square, the Baroque white-and-turquoise Winter Palace (as re-built between 1754 and 1762) of the Russian tsars,[1] gives the square its name. Although the adjacent buildings are designed in the Neoclassical style, they perfectly match the palace in their scale, rhythm, and monumentality.[citation needed] The opposite, southern side of the square was designed in the shape of an arc by George von Velten in the late 18th century. These plans came to fruition half a century later, when Alexander I of Russia (reigned 1801–1825) envisaged the square as a vast monument to the 1812–1814 Russian victories over Napoleon and commissioned Carlo Rossi to design the bow-shaped Empire-style Building of the General Staff (1819–1829), which centers on a double triumphal arch crowned with a Roman quadriga. In the centre of the square stands the Alexander Column (1830–1834), designed by Auguste de Montferrand. This red granite column (the tallest of its kind in the world) is 47.5 metres high and weighs some 500 tons. It is set so well that it requires no attachment to the base. The eastern side of the square comprises Alexander Brullov's building of the Guards Corps Headquarters (1837–1843). The western side, however, opens towards Admiralty Square, thus making the Palace Square a vital part of the grand suite of St Petersburg squares. source en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_Square By Andrew Shiva / Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0, commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=50827438

12月 23, 2020, Kazan Cathedral, St. Petersburg
Don't miss out on jogging on the nevski (ideally in the evening)! The Kazan Cathedral (Russian Казанский собор) is a large, Russian Orthodox sacred building on Nevsky Prospect in Saint Petersburg. It was built from 1801 to 1811 on the model of the Roman St. Peter's Basilica and is one of the most eye-catching buildings in Saint Petersburg. Its name goes back to an icon of the type of Our Lady of Kazan, which is venerated here. source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasaner_Kathedrale_(Sankt_Petersburg) By A.Savin (Wikimedia Commons · WikiPhotoSpace) - Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=21480571

12月 23, 2020, The Bronze Horseman – Statue of Peter the Great
The bronze equestrian statue of Tsar Peter the Great, erected in 1782 on the St. Petersburg Senate Square, is named with the popular name "The Bronze Horseman" (Russian Медный всадник, Medny wsadnik). The equestrian statue is one of the landmarks of Saint Petersburg. Tsar Peter I is depicted “on horseback” on a rearing horse with a snake trampled under its hooves. The scene is supposed to symbolize Peter's victory over the Swedes in the Battle of Poltava. source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_eherne_Reiter By Alex (Florstein) Fedorov, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=43434230

The church is 111 meters long, 97 meters wide and 101.50 meters high. The diameter of the gilded main dome is 26 meters. The church can seat more than 10,000 people. 12月 23, 2020, Admiralty Building
Axis to Nevsky prospect. Mega ensemble. Run it! The Admiralty (Russian Адмиралтейство) is an architectural monument of Saint Petersburg and represents a prime example of Russian classicism. The ship on the top of the Admiralty with the Iron Rider and the contours of the open castle bridge is one of the symbols of the city. The building houses the high command of the Russian Navy. (The headquarters was in Moscow between 1925 and 2012.) The Admiralty is clearly visible in large parts of downtown St. Petersburg, as it forms the starting point for some of its main central axes - the prospectuses. Due to this exposed location, it forms the central reference point towards which the entire city is oriented. source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Admiralit%C3%A4t_(Sankt_Petersburg) By Stanislav Kozlovskiy - own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=16527047

12月 23, 2020, Palace Bridge (Dvortsoviy Most)
on of the must see and must run in SPB Palace Bridge (Russian: Дворцо́вый мост, Dvortsoviy Most), a road- and foot-traffic bascule bridge, spans the Neva River in Saint Petersburg between Palace Square and Vasilievsky Island. Like every other Neva bridge (except for Big Obukhovsky Bridge), it is drawn by night, making foot travel between various parts of the city virtually impossible. It was built by the French firm Société de Construction des Batignolles between 1912 and 1916. The total length of Palace Bridge is 260.1 metres, width is 27.8 metres. It is actually composed of five spans, the southernmost joining Palace Embankment between the Winter Palace and the Admiralty and leading to Palace Square. quelle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_Bridge By Alex 'Florstein' Fedorov, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=61809102

Green space in the hectic megapolis. like everything here steeped in history! The Field of Mars in Saint Petersburg is an approximately twelve hectare green space in the city center between the Moika Canal and the Summer Garden. Above all, the graves of 180 dead of the Russian February Revolution are located on it and an eternal flame burns there. source By Andrew Shiva / Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=50827439 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsfeld_(Sankt_Petersburg)

the Peter and Paul Fortress (Russian Петропавловская крепость / Petropawlowskaja krepost) is a fortress from the early 18th century, which is the origin and historical center of the city of Saint Petersburg. The complex, located on Rabbit Island in the Neva, today mainly houses exhibitions and museums and is both a tourist magnet and a place to relax for St. Petersburg residents. a must on foot! amazing view. The Troitski Bridge (Russian Троицкий мост Troitski most, "Trinity Bridge") crosses the Neva in Saint Petersburg. During the Soviet Union it was called the Kirov Bridge (the Communist Party functionary lived from 1886 to 1934). It connects the Field of Mars with Troitsky Square on the Petrograd side. The Pulkowo meridian runs along the axis of the bridge. source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troizki-Br%C3%BCcke By Alex 'Florstein' Fedorov, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=21537028

12月 23, 2020, Peter the Great's Cabin
The cabin of Peter the Great (Russian: Domik Petra I or Domik Petra Pervogo or Domik Petra Velikogo) is a small wooden house which was the first St Petersburg "palace" of Tsar Peter the Great. The log cabin was constructed in three days in May 1703,[a] by soldiers of the Semyonovskiy Regiment.[1] At that time, the new St. Petersburg was described as "a heap of villages linked together, like some plantation in the West Indies".[2] The date of its construction is now considered to mark the foundation of the city. source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabin_of_Peter_the_Great picture wiki/Cabin_of_Peter_the_Great#/media/File:Domick_Petra_I.jpg
