7月 26, 2025, Donyatt Halt
Donyatt Halt Records for Donyatt Halt state: "This halt, opened on May 5th, 1928, has a single platform edged with wooden sleepers, and a small wooden shelter. A pathway leads up from the platform to the road, which crosses the line by an overbridge at the Ilminster end of the platform. An ornate oil lamp stands at the top of the path and there are various posts with brackets for hanging oil lamps in winter." It would be the guard's duty to light and extinguish these lamps. Five trains a day operated in each direction taking about 45 minutes for the 15 - mile journey from Taunton to Chard, having made stops at Thornfalcon, Hatch, Ilton, Ilminster and Donyatt. 10月 9, 2023, Dillington House
Dillington House was built originally in the 16th century, but re-built in the 19th century. Recently, Dillington House was used by Somerset Council as an event venue and a place to run adult education courses. However the council has stopped this as of September 2023.

10月 6, 2023, Pilsdon Pen Summit and Trig Point
The summit of this hill represents the second highest point in Dorset, and from here, you'll have breathtaking panoramic views. At the top, there was an Iron Age hillfort, which was excavated in the mid-20th century.

Dillington House is a historic 16th-century manor that is run as a hotel, wedding and course venue. The beautiful house is set amongst historic parkland and gardens and a delightful place to visit. During the Second World War, the house was part of 'Fortress Ilminster' as part of the Taunton Stop Line, a plan to protect against Nazi invasion. Tanks and gun emplacements stood along a long drive, which is now a public footpath.

Nice statue of a girl waiting for the train that will never come along the well maintained gravel track but some sharp changes in direction make the run from ilminster to chard confusing if you expect to be on the old railway tracks

1月 5, 2021, Lambert's Castle Hillfort
Around 2,500-years-old, this Iron Age hillfort sits at the north end of the appropriately-named Lambert’s Castle Hill. You’ll find evidence of earthworks here and lovely views of the surrounding landscapes, particularly if you explore the entire hill. There’s a trig point to the south of the hillfort, at 840 feet (256 m). Lambert’s Castle is managed by the National Trust and is free to enter. There’s a car park to the south west and the Liberty Trail hiking path runs right through the middle of the fort.

1月 5, 2021, Forde Abbey and Gardens
This Grade I-listed building is an exceptionally grand residence complete with sprawling gardens and a giant fountain. The priory was built in the 1100s and takes its name from the nearby river crossing. The abbey was surrendered during the Dissolution and had many tenants. Through the centuries it’s been renovated and undergone significant change. Today, you can still see evidence of some of the earliest sections, particularly the cloisters and the Great Hall. The gardens at Forde Abbey are spectacular and include lawns, water features and an arboretum. It also has the highest powered fountain in the country, which comes on intermittently and might surprise you if you’re walking by. There’s a cafe, shop and plant nursery here making it easy to while away your time. There is a charge to enter which is not insignificant.

Private road through the Dillington House estate that is on NCR 33. Just watch out for the cattle grids...

2月 28, 2020, Pilsdon Pen Summit and Trig Point
Pilsdon Pen affords fine views over the rolling Dorset countryside. In clear conditions, you can see Golden Cap, Marshwood Vale, and the ocean to the south, Exmoor and the Quantocks to the west, the Hardy Monument to the east, and the Polesden and Mendip hills to the north. Atop the hill is an Iron Age fort and archaeologists have found flint tools here that date back 10,000 years. The hill is in the care of the National Trust. Disused train station with some benches along the old Chard to Ilminster railway line (now a cycle path). Nice place for a pit stop.
