Haw Pha Bang Temple, also called Wat Ho Pha Bang, translates as "Royal Temple." It is a modern Buddhist temple, built in 2006, with beautiful and elaborate decoration on its main facade. Although Wat Ho Pha Bang may appear ancient, construction of Haw Pha Bang Temple began in 1963 and was finally completed in 2006. The National Museum is now housed in the former royal palace. The Wat May temple in the Royal Palace grounds was founded by King Anourouth in the late 18th century. However, construction of the pagoda only began during the reign of King Manthatourath in 1821. It was completed 70 years later by King Sakkarine.
