Another good Downham cafe

Interesting history at the locks/weirs but a fairly dull path. Little traffic to bother you.

Very pretty market square and great place for a cafe stop

Just enjoy the ride 🚵‍♂️;barely no cars, if you lucky you might see/join other cyclists on your way - I did briefly - met a couple on their way from Northampton to Wells-next-the-Sea - what a ride. 🚲🖐

Downham Market is one of Norfolk’s oldest market towns. It lies on the banks of the River Great Ouse, and dates back to Saxon times. The market place is known for its unusual and iconic black and white clock.

Before the forest you see today, Shouldham Warren was farmed as a rabbit warren, dating from at least the 17th century. The rabbits were bred for both their meat and fur. The landscape here makes for an interesting hike as it's where the fens and the brecks meet. Enjoy expansive views over the Nar Valley and the shade of the pine forests. Colours here are particularly good in the autumn.

For the fens the road surface isn’t too bad. Keep an ear out for traffic lamming it along on these straight, quiet roads though, it’s easy to get caught by surprise.

Downham Market is a pretty little town on the banks of the Great Ouse. It's one of Norfolk’s oldest market towns and is known for it's unusual 19th century black and white clock and many carrstone buildings, some showing a Dutch influence. The town has many historic buildings, antique shops and lots of places to eat and drink.

The major sluice separating the middle levels of the Fens from the tidal waters of the Wash. Very impressive engineering.

Very little traffic and takes you past Denver Sluice. The bank provides some shelter from the wind.

Such flat straight roads along here, I’ve never seen anything like this. Watch for headwinds though. Good place to just get your head down and pedal for miles. Loved it😍

Downham Market is a picturesque town on the banks of the River Great Ouse. Known as ‘Gingerbread Town’ due to the prevalence of local carrstone, it is one of Norfolk’s oldest market towns. Retaining an intimate feel, the town has many historic buildings, boutiques, antique shops, lots of places to eat and drink and some accommodation. Every Friday and Saturday, there is a bustling market.
