Another good Downham cafe

Interesting history at the locks/weirs but a fairly dull path. Little traffic to bother you.

There are only three Greyfriars Towers left in Britain and this is the best preserved, probably because it served as a landmark for traders and sailors after the dissolution of the monastery.

Just enjoy the ride 🚵‍♂️;barely no cars, if you lucky you might see/join other cyclists on your way - I did briefly - met a couple on their way from Northampton to Wells-next-the-Sea - what a ride. 🚲🖐

Downham Market is one of Norfolk’s oldest market towns. It lies on the banks of the River Great Ouse, and dates back to Saxon times. The market place is known for its unusual and iconic black and white clock.

The small mill is used for other nature projects. Birdhouses, nesting boxes and flower meadows are laid out.

King's Lynn packs so much history in! The town’s heritage is reflected in an amazing array of historic buildings and at two magnificent market places. The Minster was founded in 1095 as a Benedictine Priory, the church was rebuilt in the 13th century and has been modified through the years. The ornate Town Hall dates back to 1421 and fine old merchants’ houses stretch down to the river between cobbled lanes and the elegant Custom House overlooking the harbour.

Very little traffic and takes you past Denver Sluice. The bank provides some shelter from the wind.

Greyfriars Tower is a Grade I-listed, Scheduled Ancient Monument situated in the beautifully-kept Tower Gardens. It was the central crossing tower of the Church of St Francis Priory, which was founded in 1230. The tower itself is late 14th century. There is also a war memorial in the park. Overall, it is a good place to visit or stop for a picnic.

King's Lynn Minster (formerly St Margaret's Church) is a stunning Grade I-listed building in the heart of King’s Lynn. Founded in 1095 as a Benedictine Priory, the church was rebuilt in the 13th century and has been modified continuously through the years. The minster boasts huge bells from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and its organ survives from the mid-18th century.

Downham Market is a picturesque town on the banks of the River Great Ouse. Known as ‘Gingerbread Town’ due to the prevalence of local carrstone, it is one of Norfolk’s oldest market towns. Retaining an intimate feel, the town has many historic buildings, boutiques, antique shops, lots of places to eat and drink and some accommodation. Every Friday and Saturday, there is a bustling market.

The A10 is the road with the most awful headwind.
