Excellent food, either really good sandwiches or main meals. Very decent local beers and ciders. Well worth a detour but closed Monday and Tuesday

Although Burnham-On-Sea Pier is Britain’s shortest pier and comprises no more than a shoreward end pavilion on concrete piles, it is still a lovely structure that, unlike a lot of its bigger counterparts, still retains its Edwardian features and elegance.

End of the road. Take care the jetty is only accessible at low tide and there are strong currents. Originally constructed for the transfer of railway passengers and freight to paddle steamers which crossed the Bristol Channel to Wales.

Cycle/canal path been closed for ages. No nice diversion

The prominent hill at Burrow Mump rises from the Somerset Levels, overlooking Southlake Moor in the village of Burrowbridge. It is a scheduled monument, and the ruined church on top of the hill is a Grade II listed building.

Burnham Seafront. The fish and chips smelt delicious. Gets quieter the further south you go.

Several cafes in the area for refreshment and some interesting historical sites around the docks

One of the many drains in the Somerset Levels, King's Sedgemoor Drain was originally built in the 18th century. The Levels are a major region of seasonal flooding and the channels were constructed to aid the draining of the area, protecting the low-lying villages and farmland. As you pass this drain at Parchey Bridge, it's easy to see the perfectly straight course of the river.

A lovely canal path through Bridgewater. A great alternative to the roads of bridgewater and perfect for most bikes

At the mouth of the River Parrett, upon Bridgwater Bay is Burnham on Sea. This pier is all that remains of the Somerset and Dorset railway that connected Cardiff (via steamer) to the Southcoast. The trains used to run from Burnham-on-sea and then to Wells, Glastonbury, Bath (for connections to the Midlands) as well as Wareham and Swanage in Dorset.

Get a different view of Bridgwater coming in along the back gardens by the canal. Pretty good light gravel all the way in

Nice offroad stretch along the drain. Not one for road bikes though
