THIS UNUSUAL AND HISTORIC CINEMA was once an early 19th century farmhouse, before being converted into a recreation and entertainment center serving the nearby Victoria Hotel. After the hotel was destroyed by fire, the building was converted into the 68th cinema in Britain, opening in 1922. It was originally dubbed the “Pavilion Cinema.” However, upon completion headroom inside didn’t allow for a normal projection system, so a back-projection system was installed. The cinema’s first showing was a film by Charlie Chaplin, after a reel featuring, The Lion Eaters failed to arrive in time for the premiere. The cinema now includes two screens, with the back projection system still operating on screen one, the original auditorium. The Kinema in the Woods is believed to be the only cinema in the United Kingdom to still utilize a back-projection system. Until 1953, the original auditorium had traditional tip-up seats, except for the first six rows.

This is a tough short climb with 8 & 9% gradients. The Bluestone Heath Road that follows is very comfortable riding.

Bardney lock is located on the River Witham about 11 miles to the East of Lincoln. The River Witham flows through the peaceful Lincolnshire countryside and is has beautiful views with a remote feeling for much of its length. The flat marshy fenlands stretch out on either side of the river allowing spectacular sunsets to be seen.

Bardney is a small village that dates back to Roman times. With more than one pubs in the village to have a drink and some lunch it makes a rest stop. Look out for the Grade 1-listed 15th century church which was dedicated to St Lawrence.

The path runs between the River Witham and the South Delph. Water on both sides, lush green meadows across the shore, houseboats on the river and sculptures along the trail. Plenty to help you run through the miles.

It is the only place where the River Witham can be crossed between Lincoln and Bardney, a distance of 10 miles. A beautiful quiet spot, Lincoln Cathedral is visible on the hill to the West. The low rolling chalk hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds can be seen to the East.

Snakeholme Pit Nature Reserve is a haven for butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies, water voles and more. Throughout spring and summer, it bursts into colour with many species of wildflowers. The site was formerly a clay pit and then a fish nursery until it was taken over by Butterfly Conservation. In 2013, it was put into the care of the Lincolnshire Branch of Butterfly Conservation.

It is the only place where the River Witham can be crossed between Lincoln and Bardney, a distance of 10 miles. It can only be crossed on foot or bike and has been upgraded with cycle ramps to make it easier. Lincoln Cathedral is visible on the hill to the West.
