Superb flat ride

Well maintained tow path and is quite tranquil

Swansea Marina, is the place "where the city meets the sea", located behind the Swansea barrage at the mouth of the River Tawe.

A fast descent towards Abercraf

Really well surfaced bike path that avoids the main road. Totally quiet and empty, I love infrastructure like this!

The early slopes are very shallow as you pass from one village to another all the way to Glyntawe where the scenery begins to open up and the routes merge. Passing the turn to Trescastle you continue on the A4067 to traverse the Fforest Fwar, the slope now noticeably increasing in pitch. On the smooth wide road you inch up between the high valley sides that funnel you towards the summit and once you’re pedalling comfortably you should be able to maintain a similar speed all the way to the end. As the road sweeps round to the right you’ll notice the slight V cut in the horizon ahead, this is your goal and is reached after a couple of slight kinks in direction and an ever so slightly tougher finale

The towpath that runs along the Swansea Canal is a gorgeous leafy stretch that makes for great access to the city from the north avoiding the roads and traffic. You can either walk or cycle on the towpath, which occasionally switches over the river on a series of narrow bridges. Do take care if you're on a bike as there's often runners, walkers, children and dogs also using the shared path.

Brisk head wind from the south east as I climbed round Pen y Cwar, which a raven used to pick up a small, white, square package he carried in his feet into the valley before dropping it by a stand of trees. His partner glided to my left before slipping over my head to the right. The first raven appeared again at the head of the valley, called twice before disappearing down the Nant y Ci.
