The Nightingale

A paved road meanders through the landscape and leads to stunning views of the Dead Sea in the distance. The Jordan Trail crosses the road so that it is a good point to get on or off the trail.

The Iraq Al-Amir Women Cooperative Society is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of women in the Iraq Al-Amir region by providing training, workshops and access to financial resources. Women can develop skills which enable them to find jobs. They run a little shop here that is well worth to check out.

Qasr Al-Abd is an imposing 2nd century BC palace. It impresses with its massive limestone blocks and detailed lion sculptures. The palace, which was probably built by Hyrcanus of Jerusalem, offers fascinating insights into the ancient architecture and history of the region. It was initially constructed on top of an artificial lake.

Iraq Al-Amir is famous for its ancient caves and the historic Qasr Al-Abd castle dating back to the 2nd century B.C. The impressive landscape and archaeological sites make the city a popular destination in the region. At this location, you will find a mini market. A few kilometers further downtown, there is a coffee shop, a bakery, and a falafel place in the main street. If you want to spend the night, there are also homestays in town.

There is a small shop with snacks and drinks in the village of Rmeimeen. Treat yourself to some falafel sandwiches! If you want to spend the night, ask for the homestay in town.

really a fantastic road with a breathtaking view! We started from Madaba, drove down to the Dead Sea and took the same route back. We were there in November and it was really hot. Make sure you take enough food and drink with you, as it will definitely take longer than planned! So start early enough. We got there a bit dark in the evening and then had problems with children throwing stones at us (which seems to happen more often in Jordan. We told our landlord about it, who reported the incident to the police and we had to give a statement the next day 😂). Traffic was not a problem and most people were really nice and friendly (we were asked several times if they would take us to Madaba).

In front of the entrance to the narrow gorge is Tomb Façade 846, a rock-cut tomb dating from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD. The chamber inside was never completed.
