The Rea Valley Route is a 5.7-mile path on the National Cycle Network that connects Birmingham City Centre to Cannon Hill Park and King's Norton Park, passing through several beautiful parks along the way.

Closed Mondays but worth coming off the route for a look and a slice of cake ☺️

Water Tower at Hollymoor Hospital - Situated just off the top of Tessall Lane. Find your way to it via the big green dome that’s visible from miles. Hollymoor Hospital was a psychiatric hospital and is famous primarily for the work on group psychotherapy that took place there in the years of the Second World War. It closed in 1994. The buildings are now used for various purposes: doctors surgery and dental practice housed in the same building as the huge green domed water tower, this is a grade II listed building that you can still walk up on special event days. There is also Hollymoor Community Church hosting weekly services and community coffee mornings and you will also find here Longbridge Childcare Strategy Group - nursery, pre-school and playgroup.

This junction is where the Birmingham & Worcester canal joins the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and also where you would turn off to follow the Rea Valley Route towards Longbridge and Waseley Hills. Here you will find the old toll house currently being refurbished (2022) and an old hump back bridge which is a great spot to admire the lovely view. Be careful here as the bridge is quite steep and can be slippy. Going up and over the bridge and going along the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal takes you towards Chinn Brook Nature reserve and Earlswood Lakes. Stay on the Birmingham & Worcester canal to get to Hawkesley.

A very well maintained cycling path in the middle of the street. The trees and grass on the side give it a nice feel.

Very pretty Magnolias in the churchyard in Spring. Also a roadside well.
