Klosterplatz in Sitzendorf an der Schmida is a square that takes its name from the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent de Paul, located at the southwest entrance to the main square. The convent was founded in the 19th century and housed the Lower Austrian State Kindergarten until 1998. Klosterplatz is part of Sitzendorf's historic town center and is located in the immediate vicinity of the main square, which is characterized by 16th-century townhouses. The monastery itself is an important part of Sitzendorf's history and townscape. In addition to its historical significance, Klosterplatz is also a place that contributes to climate friendliness through its green spaces and permeable grass pavers. The unsealing of the square allows rainwater to seep into the ground, thus contributing to an improved quality of life.

Towards the end of the Thirty Years' War, in 1648, along with many of the town's houses, the rectory and the church were devastated, prompting a new building to be constructed by master builder Leopold Wißgrill between 1768 and 1782. Only the tower remains from earlier times; it was only slightly raised during the church's reconstruction. Between 1888 and 1889, the church was painted in the neo-Baroque style.

It's seen better days, but definitely worth a photo stop.

It's so big it's perfect for a mega picnic ;-). Unfortunately, the road is right next to it, but luckily there's little traffic.
