West common is situated to the north and south of Carholme Road. It is an area of open land giving excellent views of the Cathedral and the historic hilltop.

The Pyewipe Inn, alongside the Fossdyke Canal Trail is the perfect location for those who prefer more relaxed scenery to enjoy a leisurely meal and pint with, compared to the bustle of the nearby city of Lincoln (less than 2 miles away).

Entrances into Old Wood are via bridle gates – suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs – and stiles, although at some points of entry access may be limited. The eastern side of the wood is accessed via two public byways which join up with a bridleway and footpath running along the eastern edge of the site.
